Irish Farmers in Maine

Why these Irish families came to Maine is a mystery but one can assume that they arrived in Boston in the late 1820s and headed north. The first Catholic church in Maine was founded by these Irish in Newcastle in 1807, followed by St. Denis in Whitefield, where my family put down roots.
